Cisco to buy Metacloud as the great cloud consolidation (condensation?) continues


The great cloud consolidation of 2014 continued Wednesday morning with news that Cisco is buying Metacloud, a purveyor of managed OpenStack cloud. Terms were not disclosed but Cisco said the move will bolster its Intercloud cloud federation game plan.

Per the Cisco release:

Metacloud’s OpenStack-based cloud platform will accelerate Cisco’s strategy to build the world’s largest global Intercloud, a network of clouds, together with key partners to address customer requirements for a globally distributed, highly secure cloud platform capable of meeting the robust demands of the Internet of Everything.

[company]Metacloud[/company] will become of [company]Cisco[/company] Cloud Services under SVP Faiyaz Shahpurwala.

The news comes hours after [company]Rackspace[/company], long subject of speculation around M&A took itself off the block and a week after [company]HP[/company], another OpenStack player, bought [company]Eucalyptus[/company].  More here on that.
